The Huron-Sanilac EMS Network began with directors from the nine EMS services in Michigan's Huron and Sanilac Counties. The Network was initially funded by a grant awarded by the US Department
of Health and Human Services, Office of Rural Health Policy and in 2008 become
a Michigan Non-profit Corporation. The goal of the Network
is to increase the number of EMS professionals in Huron and Sanilac Counties,
with an increase in advance certifications. Strategies include increasing access
to EMS training, reducing barriers to EMS training and service, and increasing
public awareness of the value and importance of EMS.
The Network is presently expanding to include membershipi for individuals and
from additional organizations. Interested individuals or organizations should

Since the fall of 2007, the Network, in cooperation with Sanilac Medical Services, has been instrumental in planning and promoting EMT courses in Bad Axe, Sebewaing, and Sandusky, and a Paramedic course in Sandusky. For these courses, the Network was pleased to provide 33 partial scholarships to deserving individuals, and textbooks to all EMT and Paramedic students from Huron and Sanilac Counties. The Network assisted in the arrangement of a Michigan Agricutural Accident Rescue System program offered as a result of feedback from EMS professionals in the two counties. The MAARS program provides responders with a systematic approach to farm rescue procedures that address the safety of the patient as well as the responder.
The Network is preparing to roll out a marketing campaign to increase public knowledge and support of EMS in Huron and Sanilac Counties. The objectives of this plan are to educate the public about the role of EMS and EMS professionals and its rewards; to increase awareness of the education, commitment, sacrifice and experience of EMS professionals; and to help the public understand their role in emergency preparedness.
